The smell may be the refrigerant leaking out. The evaporator behind the dashboard on the passenger side is a known weak spot. Check the Acadia forum or the Enclave forum and you will find many owner's who had to have the evaporator replaced.
I have read many batteries draining problems on 2009-2012 models and I think my newer 2017 Traverse has the same issue. Fron new ( now 3.5 months) i did not notice any problems in starting etc but if I dont use it for a few days the voltage reading is showing 12.30 aprx.
